FAQs
What is the best way to store coffee pods?
The best way to store coffee pods is to keep them in their original sealed packaging in a pantry or cupboard that’s cool, dark and dry. Alternatively, you can use a coffee pod carousel or coffee pod drawer to store your pods. Keep your pods away from hot appliances like toasters, cookers, fryers and the top of the refrigerator, as heat and humidity can affect the flavour of the coffee. Avoid direct sunlight as well because light can break down the oils in the coffee and cause a stale taste.
Should coffee pods be kept in the fridge?
Coffee pods should not be kept in a refrigerator. Taking coffee pods in and out of the fridge can create condensation, which introduces unwanted moisture into the pod and can ruin the coffee grounds. Also, coffee is porous and can absorb nearby food smells, which can affect the taste of your coffee.
How many times can you reuse a K-Cup?
Regular K-Cups are designed for single use. They should not be reused to brew multiple cups of coffee. If you try to reuse a K-Cup, the second brew can be highly diluted, watery or bitter. The needle puncture from the first use can also cause coffee grounds to escape into your coffee mug or clog your Keurig coffee maker. If you want a reusable option, consider getting the Keurig My K-Cup Universal Reusable Filter that’s approved for Keurig coffee makers.
Are coffee pod storage options universal?
No, coffee pod storage options are not all universal because different pod systems, like Keurig K-Cups or Nespresso capsules, can vary in size, shape and design. Keurig K-Cups are wide, shallow plastic cups that require wider slots or tracks to store them. Nespresso Original capsules are small, narrow and tall, meaning they can slip straight through or fail to click into K-Cup racks. Nespresso Vertuo pods are wide and have a rounded dome, so they require their own wider storage compartments.
