FAQs
What is a teapot?
A teapot is a container with a lid, handle and a spout that’s used to steep tea leaves in hot water and pour tea for people to enjoy. The lid covers the top opening where you put loose tea or tea bags and hot water. The handle lets you hold and pour the tea safely without burning your hands. The spout is the opening used to pour out the tea. Not only can they be used to pour tea, but more ornate teapots can also make a great mantelpiece for your home.
Is a glass or ceramic teapot better?
Neither a glass teapot nor a ceramic teapot is universally better than the other. Each teapot serves different needs based on how you brew and drink your tea. Clear glass teapots let you watch the tea leaves unfurl and judge the exact colour of your tea. They are ideal for blooming or flowering teas. Non-porous glass teapots won't absorb odours or flavours, meaning that you can switch between teas without affecting the taste. Ceramic teapots are better for retaining heat and keeping your tea warm for a longer period. Glazed ceramic pots are reliable for brewing almost all loose-leaf teas (black, oolong, green and white). Along with your teapot, stock up on other tea supplies to get the most out of your drinks.
How do you clean a teapot?
To clean a standard teapot, use a baking soda and boiling water soak to neutralize dark stains or a mixture of boiling water and vinegar to dissolve hard water scale. Let the mixture soak for 20 to 30 minutes. Use a soft sponge or scrubbing brush to clean the teapot thoroughly. Rinse it several times with fresh water and let it air dry. It’s good daily maintenance to rinse your teapot immediately after each use.
What’s the difference between a teapot and an electric kettle?
The main difference between a teapot and an electric kettle is that a teapot is a vessel that’s used to steep and serve tea, while an electric kettle is an appliance used to heat and boil water. A teapot holds loose-leaf tea or tea bags inside a built-in or removable infuser; you pour hot water from your electric kettle into the teapot over the tea leaves.
