FAQs
What is a travel adapter?
A travel adapter is a device that converts the plug shape of your electronics and devices, so they fit into international wall outlets. For example, it lets North American 2-prong plugs fit European 2-round pins and vice versa. They cannot change the voltage of the wall outlet. That’s the job of a voltage converter. If your electronics are not dual voltage (100V-240V), you may need a voltage converter to prevent damage. Travel adapters are easy to store in backpacks, weekender bags, duffle bags and other pieces of carry-on luggage.
What is a voltage converter?
A voltage converter is an electrical device that can change the voltage level of a wall outlet to match the power requirements of an appliance or device. They allow North American (110V-120V) devices to work in European and other international (220V-240V) electrical systems and vice versa. They are important for non-dual voltage devices like hair straighteners, shavers, or travel-sized appliances. Along with a voltage converter, stay prepared for your next trip with accessories like travel organizers, toiletry bags and wall chargers.
Do you need a converter from Canada to Europe?
When travelling from Canada to Europe, you will need a plug adapter for the different sockets and a voltage converter if you have non-dual voltage appliances like a hair dryer. Canadian 2-prong plugs will not fit into European outlets that use 2 pins or British outlets that use a triangular configuration and will require a travel adapter. When preparing for your next trip, we have tech accessories to help you, like charging pads, laptop chargers and batteries.
How do I know if I need a converter or an adapter?
You will need a travel adapter if your device’s plug does not fit the outlets in the country you’re travelling to. They change the shape of the plug so that it can properly fit in an international outlet. You will need a voltage converter if your device’s voltage requirements are different from the voltage used in the country you’re travelling to or is not a dual voltage device. They change the voltage of the electricity coming from the outlet, so it matches the needs of your device. Dual voltage devices can include tablets like Microsoft Surfaces and laptops like MacBooks, Chromebooks, Windows laptops and Copilot+ PC laptops.
