FAQs
What is a weeding tool used for?
A craft weeding tool is used to remove excess pieces of vinyl, iron-on or paper from a cut design made by a craft machine. Weeding tools look like a hooked needle or tweezers and allow you to precisely poke, lift and peel away negative space without damaging the important parts of your arts and crafts project, like the centre of a letter. Weeding tools help you prepare your design for transfer whether it’s a custom t-shirt, scrapbook or mug.
What kind of vinyl does a Cricut use?
A Cricut machine uses two types of vinyl, adhesive vinyl and heat transfer vinyl. Adhesive vinyl has a sticky backing and can act as a sticker that can be applied to a hard surface like a coffee mug, water bottle, window or sign. Heat transfer vinyl, or iron-on vinyl, is a material that uses a heat-activated adhesive. It is used for applying designs and patterns on fabrics like cotton, polyester and canvas using a heat press or an iron.
Why do I need a cutting mat?
When working with craft supplies, a cutting mat provides a stable work surface that protects your desk or table from damage, prolongs the life of your craft blades and cutting knives and helps ensure clean and precise cuts. Good quality cutting mats are made from multiple layers of soft materials that close when cut with a knife or blade, so cuts reseal more effectively. Cutting mats are an important accessory when using craft machines, sewing, model making and papercrafts.
How does a Cricut work?
A Cricut is a smart, computer-controlled craft machine. You create a design on your computer or smartphone with the Cricut app and send it to the Cricut. When a Cricut is cutting, a tiny blade moves back and forth to cut your design, shape or text out of materials like vinyl, paper, cardstock or fabric. When preparing your materials for cutting, you attach them to a cutting mat to hold them in place as it goes through the machine.
