FAQs
What are air fresheners used for?
Air fresheners are cleaning products used to mask, neutralize or reduce indoor odours. They introduce pleasant fragrances into spaces like homes, offices, classrooms and cars. You can shop for air freshener sprays, plug-in air fresheners that fit in an electrical outlet. Reduce unpleasant odours spreading by throwing our garbage bags and recycling bags regularly and using cleaning wipes on surfaces like counters and office desks.
What does Febreze actually do?
Febreze air fresheners work to trap, neutralize and eliminate unpleasant odours in the air and on fabrics rather than just covering them with heavy scents and perfumes. Febreze uses active sugar molecules called cyclodextrins derived from corn to lock away odour molecules. To help remove stains and smells from clothing and fabrics, we have laundry detergents and stain removers to choose from.
What is better, Air Wick or Glade?
Neither Glade nor Air Wick is generally better than the other. Choosing between the two comes down to personal preference based on scents and product options. Glade typically offers stronger fragrance options while Air Wick features longer-lasting oil blends and glass refill designs. Both brands offer adjustable intensity dials on their plug-in air fresheners.
Are plug-in air fresheners safe to leave plugged in?
Yes, plug-in air fresheners are safe to leave plugged in all day and overnight. However, they do need to be regularly checked and maintained so they don’t become potential hazards. Leaving them unattended indefinitely or ignoring maintenance instructions can lead to overheating. For example, never leave an empty fragrance vial plugged in because the heating element will still draw power. Also, don’t plug an air freshener into a power strip, only plug it directly into a wall outlet.
Are air fresheners safe for cats and dogs?
Generally, air fresheners and cleaning supplies like plug-ins, aerosols and essential oil diffusers are not safe for cats and dogs. They release volatile organic compounds and synthetic chemicals that can trigger respiratory distress, skin irritation and toxicity. Safer alternatives for removing odours with pets include opening windows, using baking soda to absorb odours and looking for pet-safe brands.
