Enhance meetings and learning at home with detailed, life-sized images perfect for video calls and conferencing. These projectors are lightweight and support streaming from popular apps.

Gaming

Understanding Projector Features

Image Size

Most projectors can project an image up to 200" measured diagonally, which is significantly larger and more impactful than an average flat panel TV. To put it in context, 100" will dominate a large wall, and 150" can cover your garage door. Make sure you pair the right screen and have enough space in your room. Or, go for a 3-chip 3LCD projector that can deliver a bright and colourful image, even without a screen.

Colour Brightness

Most projectors come standard with HDMI® connectivity. Additional features such as Ethernet and wireless connectivity allow for further versatility, such as remote projector management in the office and streaming TV shows, sports and movies at home. Projectors that support media options such as Miracast®, Chromecast™ and AirPlay® enable you to wirelessly connect with your device. Some projectors also have built-in streaming capability, so you can immediately start streaming your favorite content.

Resolution

High resolution is important for projecting detailed charts and graphs, text and high-definition video. The higher the resolution of the projector, the sharper the details will be, especially as the projected image size gets larger. It is recommended that the projector resolution match the resolution of the video source. For business and education projectors, an ideal resolution is 1080p (1920x1080) or WUXGA (1920x1200). For dedicated theatre projectors, look for resolutions from 1080p to 4K.

More Features to Look For

Light Source

Most projectors use lamps, which provide exceptional brightness and vibrant colors. However, a growing number of projectors utilize lasers, the latest in light source technology. Laser projectors generally can operate longer than traditional lamp projectors, with little to no maintenance needed. While both projector types offer comparable image quality, with no wait time for a lamp to warm up, laser projectors instantly provide the same true-to-life images, higher brightness and sharper contrast with minimal downtime.

Throw Distance and Positioning

A projector's throw distance is its distance from the image on the screen, long-throw projectors provide very large images and usually are installed in the center of the ceiling in a large room. Short-throw projection refers to a distance 3-8 feet away from the screen and reduces shadows. Ultra short-throw projection refers to a distance 0-4 feet away from the screen and allows for projector setup just below or above the screen.

Image Position and Adjustment

Horizontal and vertical keystone correction adjusts the picture when a projector is tilted or angled toward the screen instead of centered directly in front of it. Lens shift allows the lens to move vertically and/or horizontally within the projector to provide a perfect, straight-edged image with uniform focus. Such features allow for more flexible installation. Some projectors have a physical adjustment button or slider, and others have convenient automatic adjustment.
