FAQs
What is the difference between a MacBook Pro and MacBook Air?
There are some key differences between the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is more portable than the MacBook Pro by being lighter and thinner. It is not as powerful as the MacBook Pro, but it is still capable of handling everyday tasks like internet browsing, streaming movies, working on documents and taking video calls. The MacBook Pro is the more powerful laptop. It can be purchased with stronger chips, it has active cooling fans to better manage heavier workloads, higher-quality display, longer battery life and it has more ports (HDMI and SD card) to connect to devices.
How much memory and storage do I need for a MacBook Pro?
All current M4 and M5-based MacBook Pro models include at least 16 GB of RAM, which is enough to cover most people’s daily workload. This includes internet browsing, streaming, checking emails, using office software, light photo editing and video editing. If you plan on keeping your MacBook Pro for a long time, you might consider upgrading to 24GB or 32GB of RAM. In terms of data storage, it depends on the size of files you work with. The larger the files, the more memory you should consider getting. Alternatively, you can use an external hard drive to back up your files or store your biggest ones.
What size MacBook Pro should I get?
The MacBook Pro is available in 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes. The 14-inch MacBook Pro offers the best balance between portability and performance. It delivers similar performance to the 16-inch MacBook Pro but it’s easier to fit in a backpack or a laptop bag. If performance is your top priority, the 16-inch model is worth considering. Their larger size gives you more screen space to work with and a longer battery life than the 14-inch model. However, it is heavier to carry than the 14-inch model.
Should I get the M4 or M4 Pro chip?
For most users, a MacBook Pro with the M4 chip has more than enough computing power to handle daily work or personal tasks. It’s enough to handle internet browsing, streaming, checking emails and doing basic photo and video editing. A MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro chip should be considered if you handle heavy workloads regularly, particularly if you do creative work like 8K video editing and 3D rendering, or work with large data sets.
