Some dads are easy to buy gifts for and will smile at anything you give with a smile and a heartfelt "Thank you". Other dads have their own ideas about gifts and are quite fussy. But then who knows your own father better than you? And, for that matter, who knows you better than your own father? He will likely appreciate anything you give him as long you do not forget this special day.
So, this year, put the twinkle back in his eyes with these 5 fun Father's Day gifts:
1. Board game: Does your dad like playing board games? Even if he doesn't, giving him one can be a great way to bond with your dad. Some of the best board games for adults are Cards Against Humanity, The Settlers of Catan, Smart Ass, Loaded Questions, Wits & Wagers and Battle of the Sexes. Not only are these games relaxing, they are also good for developing and improving problem solving skills.
2. Fishing gear: If your dad likes to go fishing, then he would be delighted to get some new fishing gear. You bet he will be eager to hit the road for the nearest river, lake or shoreline as soon as he gets it. While a fishing rod, hook, line and sinker set immediately comes to mind when thinking of fishing gear, there are also other equipment you can choose from. If his idea of fishing is catching more fish at a time, then give him a net or a hand dredge.
3. Whiskey-making kit: Some men like to share a pint or two of whiskey on a quiet evening with his buddies. If your dad likes whiskey, then he would be proud to serve his own homemade whiskey. Give him everything he will need to distill his own: a bottle of un-aged whiskey, an aging barrel, a pouring funnel and two tasting glasses. You never know, you may find yourself enjoying a pint with your old man during the weekend.
4. DVD set of his favorite movies: Even if your dad doesn't consider himself a movie buff, he'll like a DVD set of his favorite movies. If you’re not sure of the type of movies he likes, ask him. If he belongs to the baby-boomer generation, present him with the DVDs of The Godfather Series, The Graduate, Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Jaws and other classics from the 60s and 70s. If he was a teenager in the 70s and 80s, then give him DVDs of The Indiana Jones series, Star Wars series, ET, Top Gun, The Untouchables, First Blood and other classic of that period.
5. An assortment of chocolate bars: If your is a chocolate lover, then consider buying him some chocolate. Instead of just one type of chocolate, give him an assortment of chocolates paired with almonds, hazelnuts and other delicacies. He will just love them and love you all the more for the wonderful gift.
