4 Free Resources Every Small Business Needs to Know About

Let’s be honest, we can all use help running our small businesses. And there are plenty of blogs and media outlets trying to help. But it’s hard to find those with consistently useful information. So aside from our blog, here are four free resources every small business needs to know about to help them run their business better.

  1. Canadian Federation of Independent Business

The CFIB offers loads of valuable information to help Canadian small businesses navigate the country’s markets, governments and trends. While membership isn’t free, the resources on the website are. In particular, their business support center is full of real, tactical advice and know-how so you can skip the learning curve and head straight to a more successful business. And, their business counsellors are available to help your start and grow your business with personal, one-on-one sessions. It’s the sort of help many of us wish we knew about sooner.

  1. Yesware

I’ve written about Yesware several times but it’s worth repeating because every business using Gmail should be using it. Simply put, Yesware tracks what happens to your email after you hit send. Is it opened? Did they forward it? What device where they using? Even if you have an email service provider for your email marketing, you still send personal communications to contacts and leads. And with Yesware, you now know if that message is being received.

  1. The British Library’s Business & IP Centre

If you do not know about the British Library and its Business and Intellectual Property Centre, then you’re missing out on valuable tools, information and resources. Whether you’re just starting out, or have been in business for a while, bookmark this page. The website if full of useful guides like, An Introduction to YouTube Copyright, and the Do’s and Don’ts of Business Networking. While some of the articles are specifically for British enterprises, there is plenty of solid information and advice for us too.

  1. TopDogSocialMedia

If you have a small business, you have social media accounts. But chances are you don’t know how to leverage these platforms to promote your business, connect with customers and drive sales. Social media can be such a powerful tool when used right that this list wouldn’t be complete without help on how to navigate it. The blog offers plenty of free advice and, particularly valuable, a free LinkedIn Masterclass, ideal for marketing and sales alike.

Simplify this list by bookmarking the websites and subscribing to their RSS feeds so the information comes to you.
