Holiday Tech Gifts for Employees and Colleagues

The holiday season is fast approaching and everyone is starting to think about gifts for friends and family. However, we often don’t think about our colleagues and employees until the eleventh hour. If you’re a company owner or manager, it’s a nice gesture to give staff thoughtful gifts to show your appreciation for their hard work throughout the year. If you’re particularly close to a colleague, it might also be appropriate to get them a little something. When it comes to gifts for employees or colleagues, I tend to lean towards items that they would find useful but wouldn’t necessarily purchase for themselves. As such, tech items top my list. Here are a few ideas for items I think would make fantastic gifts for employees and colleagues.

Mobile devices are great tools, especially for individuals who travel a lot. However, the battery life on these devices tends to be challenging. This makes a portable powerbank a practical gift for anyone who owns a smartphone or tablet. These devices charge at least one device and can provide one or more full charges. Generally, I recommend keeping an eye on size, weight, and mAh specs when shopping for a powerbank. You want something that has a small, light form factor and has the highest mAh rating your budget can accommodate. The reason the mAh spec is an important one to look out for is because it tells you how much your powerbank can store. Naturally, the more power it can store up, the more full charges your mobile device can get from it.

Personalized Device Case or Mousepad

If you can get your hands on a photo your colleague or employee really likes, personalized tech accessories are a great gift that shows you put in some effort. Items such as mousepads and cases for smartphones or tablets can easily be personalized with a photo. All you need to do is bring the photo to a Staples Copy and Print Centre along with the model of the smartphone or tablet.

Fitness Trackers

Shortly after the holidays, everyone begins to focus on New Years’ resolutions and a recurring theme is fitness. Whether your colleague or employee is working on getting in shape or losing weight, a fitness tracker can help keep him or her motivated.

Fitness tracker functionality varies from simple step counters to devices that can track heart rate. If you’re shopping for a fitness tracker, I personally recommend the Fitbit or and Misfit products.

Do you work in a loud office? Your coworker or employee might find it difficult to concentrate in that environment. You can help them with a pair of high-quality, comfortable headphones. Again, headphones come in MANY flavours: wired or wireless, over-ear or in-ear, noise cancelling or not, etc. For loud offices, I recommend a good pair of noise cancelling over-the-ear headphones. These days, no one really likes wires, so I recommend a wireless pair.

Laptop bag

Company issued laptop bags tend to be bulky and unattractive. They also rarely match the employee’s style. To make your coworker or employee’s commute more pleasant, pick up a sleek messenger or shoulder bag that matches their style. Unlike the company issued ones, these bags come in a variety of styles and sizes. As such, make sure you know the dimensions of the recipient’s laptop.
