Celebrating Victoria Day Weekend usually means opening a case of 24 beers in honour of May 24 to enjoy with family and friends. Of course, there are other fun and relaxing ways to celebrate your three-day weekend before heading back to work on Tuesday. Here are a few ideas to help you and your friends commemorate Victoria Day Weekend in style.
1. Have a Staycation
Victoria Day Weekend is the perfect time to relax and catch up with friends and loved ones. You can do this with a fun staycation. Save money on travel fare by setting up a tent in your living room or den and camping out with your kids for the weekend. You can make stovetop S'mores and tell ghost stories to make the night more interesting. Or, invite your friends over for a movie marathon featuring your favourite actors and actresses. Prepare cocktails and snacks to make the movies especially enjoyable.
2. Take a New York Trip
If you want to travel internationally, pay New York a visit. There's lots to see and do, and you can easily travel home in time to rest up for work on Tuesday. You and your family can visit award-winning restaurants, buy clothes from some of the world's most famous designers, and even catch a Broadway play. There are also several daytime talk shows that are taped in New York City, so you and your friends can get free tickets and be audience members for a day. You may even get to see some of your favourite celebrities in person!
3. The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series
You can visit Bowmanville, Ontario during Victoria Day Weekend for the Canadian Tire Series from NASCAR if you're a fan of racing. Muscle cars direct from the SCCA Pro-Racing Trans-Am Series will be featured, and you'll also get to see the vehicles in the Canadian Touring Car Championship and the Formula 1600 Super Series. Take a few great snacks and cocktails with you to enjoy as the cars race around the tracks in the great weather.
4. Deep Cove
Deep Cove in Vancouver is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. If you want a little tranquility this Victoria Day Weekend, kayaking at Deep Cove will definitely do the trick. The area is also one of the best places for mountain hiking, and it's only 45 minutes outside of the city limits, so you won't have to travel far.
5. Attend the Victoria Day Parade
Victoria is home to the Island Farms Victoria Day Parade, and May 19 is the 116th celebration of the parade. It's the biggest Victoria Day commemoration in the city and lasts for three hours. This is a great family friendly event where you can enjoy snacks and elaborate floats. So, enjoy an ice cream cone, bring your pet, and enjoy this summer kick-off with the ones you love most.
Whether you prefer relaxing time off that is spent with just a few loved ones, or want to get out and be social this Victoria Day Weekend, there's something for everyone. Enjoy this introduction to summer with the activity that is best suited for you.
